ERBE, Mildred M. 1912-2006

MASON CITY, IOWA — Mildred M. Erbe, 94, of Mason City, died Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2006) at Homestead Assisted Living.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 25, 2006, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., in Mason City, with Pastor Patti Aurand of First Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Mildred was born on March 16, 1912, to Martin and Pauline (Zajicek) Lenoch. They moved to Mitchell, Iowa, when Mildred was a child. Mildred graduated valedictorian of her class in 1930 from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, Iowa. Milly attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and received a teaching certificate.

Milly was married to Carl Albert Erbe on Jan. 15, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa. She taught at county schools (Rock Township No. 5, Mitchell County) in her earlier years, and was later the first woman Realtor in Mason City. Milly, along with her husband, Carl, operated Erbe Realty. She then opened Milly’s Antiques.

Milly enjoyed quilting, making dolls, collecting and restoring old photographs and antiques, gardening, scratch tickets, slot machines, and following the stock market. She enjoyed all these activities up to the time of her death.

Milly was a member of First Congregational Church, the Masonic Temple, where she was the Worthy High Priestess of Alchor Shrine No. 6, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem where she was the state president. She was also a member of the Veleda Study Club and also past president. Milly loved to travel, returning home and putting on a display of her trip for friends and family.

Milly will be greatly missed by her family including her daughter, Barbara Erbe, and her special friend, Lowell Quirk, of Rochester, Minn., son, Robert Erbe, of Boulder City, Nev., daughter, Suzanne (Erbe) Bohn, of Lincoln, Neb., and son, Douglas (Kim) Erbe, of Mason City; grandchildren, Geoffrey Bohn of Arlington, Va., David Bohn of Chicago, Ill., Barbara (Kyle) Tingle of Louisville, Ky., Steven Bohn of Brighton, Colo.; step-grandchildren, Matthew Gemaehlich of Roseville, Minn., Alex Gemaehlich of Iowa City and Kelsey Gemaehlich of Mason City; and brother, Arnold Lenoch.

Milly was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and husband, Carl, in 1985.
Arrangements were handled by Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory.
