Leone M. Evans, 84, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics -- due to an extended illness. A gathering of friends and family was held on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. An additional gathering of friends and family was held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 in Osage, Iowa, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Burial was in the Little Cedar Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa.

Leone Evans was born in Little Cedar, Iowa on November 10, 1922, the daughter of Eugene and Blanche (Elliott) Barker. She married Clifford Lavern Evans in 1941. Leone worked many jobs throughout her life. She first taught in Keokuk, then in 1961 she moved to Iowa City where she earned her Masters Degree in both Business and Accounting. She worked in Iowa City for 15 years at the University of Iowa Eye Clinic and Business Office. Leone then moved to Chicago where she worked as a tax auditor for 25 years. In the 1990's she retired and moved back to Iowa City.

Leone was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Clifford who passed away in 1946.

Leone's family includes her three sons: Martin Lavern Evans of Rock Island, Illinois, Ronald Alan Evans of Iowa City, Douglas Lee Evans of Rochester, New York; her three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for her family through their website at www.gayandciha.com .
