Crittenden
Sandford H. Crittenden, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Crittenden, was born in Jenkins township, Feb. 15, 1859, and passed away March 16, 1941, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nettie Latimer, Cayahoga Falls, Ohio, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 1 day.
On March 3, 1881, he was united in marriage to Lizzie A. A. Wheeler. To this union were born four daughters; Beatrice E. Edson, Mattie A. Crittenden, Bernice I. Utesch, and Nettie M. Latimer.
Mr. and Mrs. Crittenden began their married life on a farm one and a half miles southeast of McIntire. In 1872 they moved to her old home place, where they resided until 1920. After that they resided in McIntire until 1934, when Mrs. Crittendne was called to her heavenly home.
Since then he had spent his winters with his daughters in Pueblo, Colo. and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and the summers in his home with his daughter, Mattie.
In his early manhood he united with the Wayne Baptist church, now the McIntire Baptist church.
He was a faithful worker and for many years was superintendent of the Sunday school. At the time of his death he was senior deacon in his church.He was an excellent neighbor, a loving father, and an earnest consistent Christian.
He leaves to mourn his loss-three daughters, one daughter, Mrs. H. M. Utesch having preceded him in death on May 29, 1940, nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, L. T. Crittenden, of Rapid City, S.D., and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held in the home Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Harvey Olsen, his pastor, assisted by the Rev. Bodenham, of Riceville, and the Rev. Fleck of Cresco. Interment was in the Wayne cemetery.
Those from out of town attending were; Mrs. M.E. Edson, of Pueblo Colo.; Mrs. D. R. Latimer, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Miss Isabel Utesch, Kansas City, Mo.
