JOHNSON
Helen Johnson was born in the Rock Creek settlement, six miles southwest of Osage, Sept. 2, 1864 and died at her home in Osage on west Main street, March 14, 1905.
Her health had been poor ever since she was quite a young girl. However, she never gave up to despair but ever tried to be cheerful. She enjoyed reading good books and was an intelligent student. For many years she was a successful teacher in the district schools. Many of her pupils can now speak words of gratitude for what she has done for them in their school days.
Several times she has tried a change of climate for her health. In 1890 she and her sister Gunild went to Norway, but her health was not much improved. Last spring she accompanied her sister Maria to the state of Arizona. While staying there she had a stroke of paralysis, and this journey also failed to improve her health.
Those who survive her are her mother and sister Maria on west Main street, Osage; Laurits, John, Carl, and Mrs. Gunhild Olson in Rock Creek southwest of Osage; and Mrs. Ole Knutson of Orchard. Her father, Ole Johnson died in Osage two years ago. Also two brothers and one sister are gone before.
Helen clung to the "Rock of Ages" as her only hope and place of safety, and therefore she could find comfort and peace in the means of grace.
The funeral services were held on Friday, March 17, at the home on Main street and in the Rock Creek church. The remains were laid to rest in the Rock Creek cemetery.
