ROGERS, Bernard E. 1915-2007

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard E. Rogers, age 91, of Osage, was held on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, Iowa, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage with military honors at the grave by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.

Bernard died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Bernard was born May 9, 1915, near Osage, the son of John "Bert" and Minnie (Schmidt) Rogers. He graduated from Osage High School in 1933. Bernard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On February 1, 1949, he married Zita Volney at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They farmed northwest of Osage, and moved to Osage in 1989. Bernard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage V.F.W., Osage American Legion, and the Farm Bureau. He served on the Board of Directors of the Osage Elevator from 1971-1980. One of the ships that Bernard served on during World War II was the USS Helena, and he enjoyed attending reunions with his shipmates.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Erna Schultheis; one brother, John Franklin Rogers; and an infant brother, Raymond.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Zita Rogers of Osage; one daughter, Marlys Rogers of Osage; one son, Thomas Rogers of Osage; two sisters, Ramona Howe of Butte, Montana, and Frances Kleckner of St. Ansgar.
