AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Velmajean Roberts will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa, with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.

Mrs. Roberts, 70, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, formerly of rural Austin, died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at Rochester Methodist Hospital.

Velmajean Kvale was born Nov. 15, 1928, in London Township, Mower County, attended Ames country school in the area and graduated from Austin High School in 1946. On Nov. 19, 1946, she married LuVerne Roberts at London Lutheran Church. They farmed in London Township before moving to Mitchell County, Iowa, where they farmed for 48 years. Mrs. Roberts was a member of Mona Lutheran Church, was active in the Woodbury Willing Workers, and enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading and puzzles.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Nancy (Mrs. John) Michelson of Faribault, Minn., and Karen (Mrs. Donald) Whalen and Linda (Mrs. Terry) Mayer, both of St. Ansgar; a son, Dale of Rockwell, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

The Worlein Funeral Home in Austin was in charge of arrangements.

VELMAJEAN ROBERTS

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Velmajean Roberts, 70, of St. Ansgar, died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at the Methodist Hospital, in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Interment will be at Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Worlein Funeral Home, 1801 Northwest Fourth St., Austin, Minn. and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Casket bearers will be Jeffrey Whalen, Steven Thome, Bradley Mayer, Darrell Thome, James Roberts, Craig Whalen, Todd Blood, Bryan Mayer and Jonathan Roberts.

Velmajean Roberts was born November 15, 1928, in London Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to John and Emma (Scheffel) Kvale.

Velmajean attended Ames Country School in London Township and graduated from Austin High School in 1946.

She married LuVerne Roberts on November 19, 1946, at London Lutheran Church. They farmed in London Township and then moved to Mitchell County, where they farmed for 48 years.

Velmajean was a member of the Mona Lutheran Church. Velmajean was also active in the Woodbury Willing Workers. She enjoyed quilting for church and her family, gardening, reading and puzzles and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, LuVerne, of St. Ansgar; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Mickelson, of Faribault, Minn., Karen and Donald Whalen, of St. Ansgar, and Linda and Terry Mayer, of St. Ansgar; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kathy Roberts, of Rockwell; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one nephew.
