Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Koster, 89, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, who died on July 30, 1983 at Mitchell Conty Memorial Hospital, in Osage, Iowa, were held on August 2, 1983 at the St. Ansgar United Methodist church with the Rev. Loyd Johnson officiating.
Ruth Jane (Poer) Koster was born on August 28, 1893 near Amo, Indiana, the daughter of Edward L. and Elizabeth (Whicker) Poer. She was baptized in running water at the age of 12, and was a member of the Amo Baptist Church. She graduated from the Amo public schools in 1913, and received her teaching certificate from Canterbury College, Danville, Indiana. She taught in schools in the north central Iowa area for five years.
She married George Koster of St. Ansgar on May 11, 1919 at the First Baptist church in Mason City, Iowa. Upon moving to St. Ansgar she joined the St. Ansgar Methodist church and was a lifelong member. Four sons were born to them.
Mrs. Koster is survived by three sons, George Jr. of Solverton, Oregon; Jack of St. Ansgar; and Gary of Worthington, Minnesota; also 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Hofler of Mason City, and Mary Veatch of Naples, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Robert; two brothers and three sisters.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Johnson in charge of committal services.
