Mabel Amelia Augusta (Schroeder) Brandt was born January 12, 1902 to Herman and Emma (Feldt) Schroeder in St. Ansgar township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She was Baptized by her father, due to a life threatening illness, on February 12, 1902. She spent her childhood and teenage years on the family farm just north of where the Duuenow quarry is located. She attended Spring Valley school and St. Ansgar high school. She confirmed her faith April 1, 1917 at St. John's Lutheran church, Rock township, in the absence of a resident pastor in Toeterville.
She married Orville Brandt on December 26, 1925. The couple established their home on the Brandt family farm northeast of Toeterville. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Marcella.
Mabel was known and appreciated by friends and neighbors for her agreeable, unselfish nature and her modest lifestyle. The family moved to a farm south of Toeterville in 1946 and to the Cook farm one mile east of St. Ansgar in 1948. Mabel continued to live with her daughter after her husband's death in October of 1956.
They moved to the farm just south of Toeterville in 1973 where she resided until the time of her death. She broke her hip for the second time in May of 1982 and was confined to a wheel chair the last year and a half of her life.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and sisters who died in infancy, her sister Lydia Koethke, and her husband Orville.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcella Brandt and one nephew, Allen Koethke.
