MRS. ALBERT JOHNSON DIES TUESDAY - HAD BEEN BLIND SINCE OPERATION ON EYE YEAR AND A HALF AGO
Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Johnson, 76, who died at her home here at 8:20 o'clock Tuesday night will be conducted from the First Lutheran church Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. Olaf A. Langehough will be in charge.
Ella Flatness was born in Haugesun, Norway April 10, 1860. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway. At the age of 16, she came with her parents to the United States, locating at Northwood, Iowa where they lived for 2 years before moving to St. Ansgar, Iowa.
On October 11, 1885 she was married to Albert Johnson by Rev. John Olson in the First Lutehran church. To this union three children were born: Mary, Lewis, and Mrs. Alfred Kittleson, all of St. Ansgar. The family resided here for 10 years, moving to Otranto township where they made their home until last August when they returned to St. Ansgar.
Mr. Johnson died 14 years ago. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed good health until a year and a half ago when she underwent an operation on her left eye. It was unsuccessful and as a result she was totally blind the rest of her life. She had earlier lost the sight in her other eye.
Three sisters: Mrs. Christina Nygaard of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Chris Skjeveland of Albert Lea, and Mrs. Harry Olson of Carpenter; and three brothers: Rasmus of Northwood; Martin of Gordonsville; and Lars of Minneapolis, survive her. One grandchild, Wanda Kittleson, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Kittleson, also survives.
