LYDIA MARCKS FUNERAL RITES WEDNESDAY
BRAIN CANCER PROVES FATAL TO LOCAL WOMAN AT 53 YEARS
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Lydia Marcks, 53, at the Immanuel Lutheran church Wednesday, October 6, 1937. She died at her home in St. Ansgar last Sunday as a result of cancer of the brain.
Mrs. Lydia Marcks, nee Buehrer, was born September 28, 1884, at Grafton where she was baptized by her father. She was confirmed at the Rock Creek Church, Meroa, Iowa, by the Rev. J. Westenberger on April 3, 1898. She clerked in a store at Grafton until her marriage to Louis C. Dieterichs on November 26, 1903. To this union was born four children, two sons and two daughters. One son died of influenza on December 25, and a daughter died on December 26 in 1918. Her husband, Louis died January 1, 1919 of the same disease.
Mrs. Marcks remained on her Rock township farm until October 12, 1927, when she was married to August Marcks. To this union one daughter was born. On February 26, 1929 August Marcks died and Lydia moved to St. Ansgar where she has made her home ever since.
Although Mrs. Marcks underwent a gallstone operation five years ago, she had enjoyed apparently good health until a few months ago when she began suffering from headaches and drowsiness. It was first feared that she might be suffering from sleeping sickness, but a medical examination revealed she had cancer of the brain. Death came Sunday evening at 5:30 o'clock.
She is survived by one son, Walter Diederichs [SIC], and 2 daughters, Edna Diederichs [SIC] and Delores Marcks, six brothers: Arthur Buehrer, Otranto; Otto Buehrer, Waterloo, Iowa: Carl Buehrer, Grafton; Theodore Buehrer, Waverly, Iowa; Sigmund Buehrer, Ft. Williamson, Ontario; Oscar Buehrer, Des Moines, Iowa; and 2 sisters: Mrs. Herman Diederichs [SIC] and Mrs. William Tesch, both of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

NOTE: Diederichs should be spelled Dieterichs.
