Funeral services for Mrs. Opal V. Berg, 91, of St. Ansgar, who died here August 7, were held August 9 at the St. Ansgar United Methodist church with the Rev. Loyd Johnson officiating.

Opal Virginia Berg was born in Cedar Rapids May 21, 1892, the daughter of William Elmer and Lillie (Sturdevant) Lovejoy.

She moved with her family to Waverly where she spent her youth and early years where she attended public schools and normal teaching training. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist church, and she taught public school for a number of years in the area.

On Christmas Day, 1919, she married Grant O. Berg of Butler, Kansas. They then moved to the St. Ansgar community where they farmed before moving into town in 1941.

Mrs. Berg is survived by two sons, Roger Grant and wife Monica of Hinton and Raymond D. of St. Ansgar; also five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; one son, Max Dale, who died while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and one brother, Dorlan of Waverly in 1977.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Johnson in charge of committal services.
