Mrs. Elias V. Cady
Mary Ellender McKay was born at Canaan, Ind., April 2, 1840, and departed this life at Dickens, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1921, at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 22 days.
In 1857 she was married to William Curran of Frankfort Ken. To this union were born two children, James A. Curran of Wilmar, Minn., and Mrs. Mary Jewell of Carpenteria, Calif.
Mr. Curran having succumbed to malaria fever while serving as a soldier during the Civil war, she was later married at Mitchell, Iowa to Elias V. Cady, who preceded her to the better world May 27, 1898.
This home was blessed with six children-Clarence M. Cady of Tacoma, Wash., Nellie C. Worth of Chicago, Ill.; E. Vinson Cady of Waterloo, Iowa, and Elizabeth C. Schoonover of Artesian, S. Dak., the last four of whom were privileged to be with her and minister to her when the death angel came, and the Master said “Enter thou
into the joy of thy Lord”.Not only was she the mother of these children, but three step-children called her blessed-James Howard and A.T. Cady of Kensett, Iowa, and William H. Cady, who died at Omaha, Neb. in December, 1920.
Mrs Cady was converted in childhood and lived a beautiful, consecrated Christian life, always at work in the Master’s vineyard ministering to the sick and sacrificing all for her children and those about her. She had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for some sixty years and at her death was a member of the M. E.
church of Osage. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband and children last Friday afternoon, services being conducted at the cemetery chapel at 2:30 by Rev. Lemon.
