55th Anniversary.
It is seldom that one has the privilege of enjoying so pleasant an occasion as the gathering at the M. E. Church on April 24th, the 55th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Windsor.
The venerable couple are 77 and 76 years of age, were born in North Hamptonshire, England. and were married April 24, 1834. They came to Mitchell county many years ago, living on their farm northwest from Riceville till the last few years during which they have lived in town.
Their family is a large one, numbering just one hundred children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, probably fifty of whom were present. A beautiful cake made by Mrs. C. A. Arnold and bearing the dates 1834-24-4 and 4-24-1889 was presented as a reminder of the two occasions, their marriage and its celebration. Two beautiful easy chairs were presented by the friends, in a neat little speech by Rev. Cassidy, to which Mr. W. feelingly replied. A long and honorable career in business and society, and a faithful, consistent life and service as members of the M. E. church have won for these aged friends a respect and an appreciation which cannot fail to light many dark places on their journey adown the “River of Time,” and cheer their hearts with the thoughts that their lives have not been in vain as their barque nears the shores of the ‘Ocean of Eternity.
