Niss Hanson, who is successfully engaged in farming and stock raising on his farm on section 7, St. Ansgar township, Mitchell county, was born in Denmark, December 21, 1861. His parents, H. P. and Mary Hanson, came to the United States in 1871 and first took up their residence at St. Ansgar, but later removed to a rented farm near that town. The mother passed away in 1907, and in 1911 the father returned to Denmark, where he died in 1914. To them were born two children: Niss; and Emilia, now Mrs. Sam Hanson, of Mitchell county.

Niss Hanson was only ten years old when brought to this country and he completed his education, begun in Denmark, in the public schools at St. Ansgar. As a boy and youth he also received excellent training in farm work through assisting his father, to whom he gave the benefit of his labor until he was twenty-one years old, when he began operating land on his own account. For the past fifteen years he has resided on his present place on section 7, St. Ansgar township, and during that time has brought the farm to a high state of development, erecting thereon fine buildings and otherwise improving it. He does general farming, raising both stock and grain, and both branches of his business return to him a good income. He is a stockholder in the Cooperative Lumber & Grain Company and the Cooperative Creamery.

Mr. Hanson was married in 1898 to Miss Marie Carlson, a daughter of J. P. Carlson and a native of Mitchell county. To this union have been born two children, Arthur and Mary, both at home. The republican party has a stanch supporter in Mr. Hanson, who believes firmly in. its principles. For the last quarter of a century he has held the office of school director and has been instrumental in bringing about improvements in the schools. He belongs to the Knights of Pythias and the Lutheran church, and his life has always been guided by high moral standards. Indisputable evidence of his genuine worth is the esteem in which he is held by those who have known him since boyhood.
