Jo Ellen,

The correct name for the cemetery you are referring to is Hillsdale Cemetery in Center Township, Mills County, Iowa. This cemetery was originally a Morman buring ground and was formerly known as Loudon Cemetery, (both the towns of Loudon and Hillsdale are now ghost towns).

Row 8, south to north, west to east s- indicates stone

(both names are on the same headstone)

s-PATTERSON, John 18 Jun 1812-10 Oct 1881 Father

Mary Albin 22 May 1816-12 Jan 1893 Mother

Note: there are other PATTERSON names also listed at the Hillsdale Cemetery, possible other Patterson relatives.

For an obituary, the Mills County Genealogy room is located at the Glenwood Public Library in Glenwood, Iowa. Someone there should be able to help in your obituary search.
