Pearl Ethel Stille

Pearl Ethel Stille, daughter of Ola and Albert McCluskey, was born June 30, 1894, at Glenwood, Iowa, and died July 28, 1963, after a prolonged illness. She had attained the age of 69 years and 28 days.

The early years of her life were spent in and around the Glenwood community. There she received her education in the rural schools, and there she grew to young womanhood.

On July 27, 1910, she was united in marriage with Reuben Stille of Glenwood. To this marriage were born nine children: Albert J. Stille of Villisca, Walter G. Stille and Mrs. Leona Henderson, both of Malvern, Mrs. Bedah Anna Huff of Emerson, Mrs. Ila Fay Sieck of Emerson, Mrs. Ila Fay Sieck of Sigourney, Ernest C. Stille of Drake, Colo., Mrs. Pearl Young of Kersey, Colo., Mrs. Betty Hansen of Emerson and Lee L. Stille of Omaha.

Following their marriage the young couples settled down to farming. In the years that followed they lived in the Pony Creek area near Pacific Junction, in the Silver City vicinity, around the Glenwood community, and west of Shenandoah for four years.

Just two months after they had moved to Glenwood to retire, Reuben died March 27, 1955.

As a young woman she was converted at the old West Oak Baptist church. She used to play the organ in the church when she was so small someone else had to pump the pedals for her. In later years she joined the First Baptist church at Glenwood, where she was active in the Sunday school and church services. For a period of time she served as a deaconess, and for some time was a member of the chancle choir and the music committee of the church.

Other than her children, those who survive are: her mother, Mrs. Ola McCluskey of Glenwood; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grand-children. A grandson, Larry Hansen and a great-grandson died in infancy.

Services for Mrs. Stille were held August 1 at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist church in Glenwood with the Rev. Arthur C. Marston officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Mildred Wamberg, organist, and Neil McPherron, soloist.

Caring for the flowers were Kathryn Marsh, Dorothy Jean Stille, Barbara Den Hartog, Judy Huff, Myrna Stille and Gloria Sieck. Pallbearers were Lloyd Stille, Robert Stille, Richard Henderson, Dean Sieck, Charles Stille and Jerry Huff.

Interment was in the Glenwood cemetery.

Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
