Funeral Services For Otto Schoening

Highly Respected Resident of Mineola Community Passed Away Following Lingering Illness of Many Months.

Funeral services were held for Otto Peter Schoening at 1:30 o'clock Friday in the Myers-James funeral home in Glenwood and at 2 o'clock in the St. John's Lutheran church in Mineola with the Rev. O.C. Biermann in charge.

Music for the service was furnished by Kathryn Schoening, Kathryn Green and Arlu Jurgens with Mrs. Ezra Speck as pianist. Ladies in charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Wilbert Kahl, Mrs. Arthur Pedersen, Mrs. Abbie Miller and Mrs. Harold Scheel. Pallbearers were Fred Miller, Hans Scheel, Bill Krakan, Theodore Behrens, Ralph Lawson and Art Pedersen.

The large number in attendance at the funeral service spoke the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him best. The body was laid to rest in the Mineola cemetery.

Otto Peter Schoening was born three miles north of Mineola, Ia., Feb. 13, 1884, and died Tuesday, June 17, 1941, having reached the age of 57 years, four months and three days. His death was caused by cancer from which he had suffered since March of 1940. The last weeks of his life he had been confined to a Council Bluffs hospital.

Mr. Schoening had never married, but resided on the farm with his brother and sister, Adela. Other brothers who survive him are Herman of Mineola, Hans of Malvern, Gus of Prescott, Charles of Silver City, Ralph of Council Bluffs and Guy of Silver City, and another sister, Mrs. Amanda Stark of Emerson, Neb.
