Roy Haney Died Suddenly Monday While In Red Oak

Prominent Glenwood Citizen, Former State Representative and Ex-Mayor Stricken, Funeral Service Friday Afternoon.

Roy Haney, 62, prominent real estate agent of Glenwood, passed away suddenly Monday afternoon at four o'clock in the office of Dr. C.C. Nelson in Red Oak. He had gone to Red Oak on business and apparently became ill, but upon reaching the doctor's office, he immediately slumped in a chair, and was dead. His business associate, Bert Colwell, whose name was found upon papers Mr. Haney was carrying, was summoned to Red Oak at once, but was not advised of his death until he reached there.

Mr. Haney was born on a farm near Silver City July 28, 1879. Being among the older sons of a large family, he assumed leadership in the family group at an early age, upon the death of his father. Thirty-five years ago, he was united in marriage to Pearl Mintle of Glenwood, who survives him, as does his aged mother, Mrs. Rachel Haney. He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Horton of Glenwood and Mrs. I.O. Hunt of Old Shasta, Calif.,and five brothers, J.R. Haney of Cannon Ball, N.D., Alva of Homedale, Idaho, Charles E. of Hollywood, Calif., Will of Kuna, Idaho and Wallace of Tabor.

Mr. Haney, who was always a civic leader, was an ex-mayor of Glenwood and had served two terms in the Iowa legislature as the representative of Mills county. At the time of his death, he was president of the Mills County Building & Loan Association, past president and director of the Glenwood Chamber of Commerce, a member of the official board of the Methodist church and an active participant in politics and Masonic affairs.

His body was brought to the Myers-James Funeral home in this city where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral service which will be held in the Glenwood Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o:clock.
