Prominent Mineola Resident Passes

A. Ernest A. Hartje, Born in Hanover, Germany, Came With Parents to Mineola Community When Nine Years Old.

In the passing of A. Ernest A. Hartje the Mineola community lost another one of its highly respected pioneer citizens. Mr. Hartje, who was born in Hanover, Germany, August 17, 1866, when a lad of nine, came with his parents to this country. The family located on a farm northeast of Mineola, where he attended school and grew to young manhood.

On June 18, 1890, he was united in marriage to Anna Kahl. They established their home on a farm in that community until about thirty years ago when they moved into Mineola where they have since resided and where last June they observed their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Hartje had been in good health until the past few months. He entered an Omaha hospital for an operation in the hope of improving his condition, but passed away Sunday, May 18, having reached the age of 74 years, nine months and one day.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Clara Huber of Charter Oak, Dr. Harry Hartje of Adair, and Mrs. Helen Lytle of Santa Anna, Calif., and two grandchildren.

He was a member of the congregation of the St. John's Lutheran church of Mineola, and funeral services were held in the church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. O.C. Bierman with the Raynor Funeral home of Glenwood in charge of the service.

Music for the service was furnished by Katheryn Schoening, Mrs. Robert Schoening, Izetta Kiersch, Mrs. Joe Kahl and Mrs. Ezra Speck at the oragan. The ladies in charge of the flowers were Viola Kahl, Aita Kahl, Gertrude Westergaard, and Virginia Kruse. Those who served as pallbearers were R.W. Deitchler, John Konz, Chris Dittman, Ferdinand Roenfeld, John Deitchler and H.F. Kruse.

The body was laid to rest in the Mineola cemetery.
