Services held for Gernard D. Funk

Born in Ohio, Mr. Funk came to Iowa in childhood and resided here during remainder of his life.

Funeral services for Gernard D. Funk, 66, who passed away Wednesday, March 18, were held at the Myers-James Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. J. F. Stille of Council Bluffs, a long time family friend.

Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Garreld Baker, George Scott, Tom White and Shirley Mayberry with Miss Ruth Miller at the piano.

He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Funk and was born in Logan County, Ohio on September 25, 1875. When a small child, he came with his family from Ohio to Fremont County, Iowa and later to Mills County.

He was married to Bessie Brower on January 29, 1908. There were three children born to them, all of whom are still living: Mrs. Riley Hixson of Malvern; Carl Funk and Mrs. Cleil Ostrander both of Los Angeles, Calif. He is also survived by three grandchildren, and numerous other more distant relatives.

When a young man, he joined the Friends Church and lived consistent with the teachings of the Christian faith throughout the active years of his life.

Those in charge of the floral tributes at the funeral service were Mrs. Stewart Osterholm, Mrs. George Mead, Mrs. Ed Hayes and Miss Edna Myers.

Those serving as pallbearers were Gus Hatcher, Clifford Hodges, James Newman, Spencer Harrod, John Kates and Almon Jones.

The body was laid to rest in the West Liberty Cemetery.
