C.O. McCoy was born in LaFayette County, Pa., Jan. 5, 1829, and died near Silver City, Iowa, May 7, 1905, aged 76 years and 4 months. The funeral was held Friday, May 12, at the home, conducted by Rev. R.R. Moser of Silver City.

The deceased came with his parents to Illinois in 1839, then to Iowa in 1840, settling in Scott county at first, then moving to Cedar county in 1843, and to Mills county in 1850. He was married three times, two children by his first wife now residing in California.

In 1856, some time after the death of his first wife, he was married to Francis Almedo Butts in Platte County, Missouri, where he resided til 1861 when he returned to Mills County. In 1865 he moved to a farm east of Silver City where he continued to reside for 40 years.

His second wife died Oct. 31, 1875, and on June 20, 1877, he was married to Mrs. Josephine Orr, who survives him. There were five children born as a result of the second marriage, two dying in infancy, and a daughter Mrs. John Hettinger dying in 1897. Two sons survive, Wm. McCoy of Silver City and L.G. McCoy of Spokane, Wash.

He also leaves a brother Thomas McCoy of Ellsworth, Kan., and five sisters, two residing in Eastern Iowa and one in Missouri, Mrs. Jonathan Caldwell near Glenwood, and Mrs. Martha Davis at Pacific City.

He was one of the sturdy pioneers of Mills County and by his energy and industry added to his own possessions and helped to make this country what it is today. He was highly respected by all who knew him.
