Funeral services were held September 19 for 102 year-old Nell Bogart of Glenwood at the Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. The Rev. Douglas J. Anderson officiating, with burial at Glenwood Cemetery.

She was born January 8, 1885 in Sarpy County, Neb., just across the river from Glenwood. Her grandparents, Nancy and B.F. Buffington, lived here in a home they built around 1875 on the corner of 4th and Walnut Streets.

Miss Bogart had two sisters, Inslee Bogart Flickinger and Gertrude Workman. Mrs. Workman is 100 years old, and lives at Glen Haven Home. Also joining the family were two brothers, Wayne and Lawrence. The five children grew up in what is called the Towslee House on Walnut Street.

Miss Bogart was a graduate of Glenwood High School and Cornell College. She later went to Smith College in North Hampshire, Mass., and graduated from that school. Miss Bogart later taught at Glenwood High School, where she was an English teacher and later became principal.

Miss Bogart was a strict disciplinarian, but the students respected her for her strict discipline because she was interested in their progress in school.

She later went to Waterloo to teach, but came back to Glenwood to be with her invalid mother. She taught at the high school again after returning home.

Miss Bogart was active in her church and civic affairs. She was a member of the Methodist Church, serving on the official board and as Sunday school superintendent. Her mother, Lizabeth Bogart, helped start the Glenwood Public Library.

Miss Bogart was a charter member of P.E.O., and would have become a 75-year member in six months. When she was president, the group sent her to a convention at Lake Louise, Canada, one of the highlights of her life.

She was also a member of the DAR, believing in the work they do to preserve historic places. For many years she was a member of the Glenwood Library Board, serving as president.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Rev. Perry Bishop, Robert Buffington, Halden Altekruse, Donald Bruce, Robert Dean and John Dean.
