AUTO ACCIDENT FATAL TO ALFRED GLENN ON US 34
Popular Young Glenwood Man Met Tragic Death Wednesday Night When Coupe Was Struck By Truck Trailor From Texas

An automobile collision, which occurred at what is commonly known as “Dead Man’s Crossing,” one and one-half miles east of Glenwood on Highways 34 and 275, resulted in the death of Alfred Glenn, 22, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Glenn, of this city. The accident occurred between seven and eight o’clock on Wednesday night.

Alfred was driving east in his Oldsmobile coupe, having as his destination Emerson, where he expected to call on friends. Snow was falling and the condition of the road was somewhat icy. A curve and hill are found at the scene of the accident, and there he met a semi-truck and trailer loaded with corn and driven by Henry King of Mercedes, Tex., who was coming toward Glenwood. Mr. King reported to authorities that he met and passed this coupe, and the next thing he heard was the trailer strike the car. The result of this impact was such that the truck was turned over in a nearby ditch and the Glenn car was smashed nearly flat to the ground on the highway.

Alfred, who was traveling alone, was pinned under the mass in such a way that it was necessary to remove him through the windshield. Sheriff DeMoss was called to the scene at once, and the young man was taken immediately in the Raynor ambulance to a Council Bluffs hospital, but died immediately after reaching there. His body was returned to the Raynor Funeral Home, but funeral arrangements are not yet completed.

Mr. King, the driver of the truck, sustained minor injuries. Although a resident of the south, Mr. King is well acquainted with this section of the country and has been over this particular highway at other times.

Alfred Glenn is well known in the business and social life of Glenwood. For the past four years he has been associated with the Kier & Son grocery, driving their delivery truck.
