Janene Clair Stacy, 63, of Glenwood, died Jan. 16, 2005, at her home after an extended battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Pastor Darrell Hopp officiated the services. Burial was at the Malvern Cemetery.

Mr. Stacy was the daughter of Alton Clair and Beulah Evelyn (Wilcox) Clark, born Feb. 25, 1941, on a farm northwest of Glenwood. Following her birth, the family lived in Pacific Junction for a short period before moving to Glenwood in 1943. She was baptized and joined the Glenwood Congregational Church in 1949 when she was in the third grade. She attended grade school and high school in Glenwood. During her senior year, she attended extra classes on Saturdays at the Comptometer School in Omaha, receiving a degree in that field in addition to her high school diploma. She married Roger Stacy on June 28, 1959, in Glenwood. Their marriage was blessed with two sons. Mrs. Stacy enjoyed working and being around children. She was a den mother, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and Bible school teacher when her boys were young. At one time, Mr. and Mrs. Stacy were avid square dancers. Mrs. Stacy enjoyed camping and vacationing with her family and her sister’s family. After giving up camping, they purchased a boathouse on Beaver Lake in Nebraska. The boathouse became the weekend gathering place for family and friends, especially on Sundays and the Fourth of July. She would look forward to all the fun and good food. Since childhood, one of her favorite pastimes was reading, which she was unable to do the last several months. Another one of her hobbies was going to antique shows with her husband, where she started her collection of bears. Mrs. Stacy was always known as an outstanding bookkeeper. She won many awards from the different car companies when she and her husband owned Glenwood Auto. The employees there called her “Mama Stacy,” and one of her favorite sayings was, “It’s not who made the sale, it’s who rang the register.” She enjoyed working for the City of Glenwood Water Department until her health forced her to retire at the end of September 2004. She made every effort to get to work, even when she didn’t feel well. Her will to live was outstanding. She put other people’s needs ahead of her own whenever possible. She was a devoted wife, and her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Spoiling her grandchildren was more than a part-time job. She was regarded as a “caring” aunt by her nieces and nephews and was always interested in and how they were doing. She believed that her love for people and family was what kept her going. She had stated that her goal in life was to do good thing a say—to help people laugh, laugh at themselves, or at least smile. She made this her goal in her work and her daily life.

Mrs. Stacy was preceded in death by her mother, sister-in-law Elaine Roundtree, father-in-law Arch Stacy and mother-in-law Ruth Stacy. She is survived by husband Roger of Glenwood; sons Gary of Glenwood and Clark and wife Joni of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren Callie and Caitlin of Glenwood and Jake. Ben and Jimmy of Omaha; father Alton Clair Clark of Glenwood; sister Lois Aistrope and husband David of Randolph; brother-in-law Keith Stacy and wife Ruth of Marion; sisters-in-law Anna Van Winkle and friend Mick Thompson of Tabor, Carol Stroud and husband Roger of Glenwood and Linda Vinton and Husband Gary of Malvern; nephew Dale Kirkpatrick and wife Vickie of Hamburg (who was raised as a sibling by Arch and Ruth Stacy); many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; other relatives, and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Glenwood UCC Church or the Glenwood Public Library. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
