OBITUARY

Mrs. Eli Vickery

Ann Lewis was born in Swansea Wales, June 11th, 1843. Her parents came to Council Bluffs, Ia., in 1848. When about 18 years of age she united with the church of Latter Day Saints. She was married to Owen Roberts who died in 1866, leaving one son, O.J. Roberts, of Oklahoma. In 1870 she was married to Eli Vickery of Malvern, Ia. Five children were born of this union, Louisa who died in childhood, Joesph E., who was drowned in 1898, while endeavoring to save the life of a playmate, Mrs. Susie McElderry of Montana, Mrs. Lizzie Driver of Loveland, Ia., and William Vickery of Missouri Valley, Ia. She died at her late residence in Malvern Nov. 11th, 1904, at the age of 61 years and 5 months. The funeral services were held in the First M.E. church of Malvern, Sunday, Nov. 13th at 11 a.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.H. Cable, speaking from the text, II Cor. 5:1, “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” All the children were permitted to be present at the funeral. The services were largely attended by friends and neighbors, thus testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held by a large circle of acquaintances. Interment was in the beautiful Malvern cemetery. Thus a long-time citizen, a good neighbor, a devoted wife and a loving mother rests from her labors and her works to follow her.
