Malvern Leader
Malvern, Mills County, Iowa
Sept. 24, 1896 pg 1

OBITUARY. Robert Plumb was born in Barrowby, Lincolnshire, England, April 6th, 1834, came to the United States in 1853, and settled in Wyandott county, Ohio. He married Mrs. Jane Skerritt, October 18th, 1861, and in the spring of 1865 they came to Iowa and settled in Mills county. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive him, three being present at his death. He was a man of robust constitution, industrious and economical habits, and accumulated a large amount of property. He united with the M.E. church at the Big Mud Creek school house in the winter of 1866 under the labors of Rev. W.T. Smith, and for almost 80 years he was a true friend to and supporter of the church. He died in Malvern, Sept. 16, 1896, and although the nature of his affliction was such as to prevent the giving of testimony, we have no doubt that he is now enjoying the “rest which remainith to the people of God.” The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. G.W. Roderick, of Shenandoah, after which the body was laid to rest in Malvern’s beautiful cemetery.
