Malvern, Mills County, Iowa
Feb. 19, 1903

Josiah Leake was born in Zanesville, Ohio, July 8, 1833. While yet a child, he with his parents moved to Morgan County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood.

While living in Morgan County he was married to Miss Sarah C. Applebee on February 21, 1858. The fruit of this marriage was three children, two daughters and one son.

He enlisted in Company B 36 Regiment of Ohio Infantry on the 20th day of February 1864 and was honorably discharged May 15th 1865.

He moved to Virginia in 1873 and remained there until 1883 when he moved to Malvern.

His wife died in June 1892. He became a christian while yet a young man. After coming to Malvern he frequently preached the Gospel, having a very intelligent grasp of the Word of God.

For about four years he has been in declining health growing out of a severe attack of pneumonia.

For several years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Mary L. Norris, where he quietly passed away through the portal of death Tuesday evening, February 10, 1903. The funeral services were conducted in the home of Mrs. Norris by Elder C.E. Pomeroy 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, February 12, 1903, after which he was laid to rest by the side of his wife in Malvern cemetery.
