Hazel Viner, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Hazel Belle Viner was born December 10, 1914 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Bessie (Dodds) Vanausdle. She was raised in Montgomery County graduating from the Wales High School. She later took a home nurses training course. Hazel was united in marriage to Merwin Viner on December 27, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived all of their lives in Montgomery County where they farmed. Merwin preceded Hazel in death on July 31, 2001.

Hazel was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. She enjoyed many hobbies including ceramics, watching stock car racing, flowers, fishing with her kids; and all animals. She especially loved cattle and birds. She was a neighborhood friend to all. Hazel was a past Montgomery County Homemaker of the Year of which she was very proud.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merwin Viner; and brother, Harold Vannausdle.

Survivors include her son, LeRoy Viner and wife Phyllis of Malvern, Iowa; daughter, Deanne Viner of Red Oak, Iowa; three grandchildren, Gina Klindt and husband Rod of Glenwood, Iowa, Teri Speck of Bellevue, Nebraska and Denise Fichter and husband Greg of Shenandoah, Iowa; nine great grandchildren, Brad and Dustin Klindt, Erin, Tyler and Emily Speck, and Kristen, Austin, Jeremy and Justin Fichter; sister, Edyth Thomas of Red Oak, Iowa; four sister-in-law, Opal Viner, Marilyn Viner, Doris Viner, and Dorothy Vannausdle; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve McKinney officiating. Burial was in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
