Ben Hambach met with a most peculiar death at his home near Strahn in White Cloud township last week. Monday afternoon he was listing corn on his father’s farm when in some unaccountable manner the clevis broke and let the double trees come down on the heels of the horses which he was driving. They immediately started to run and Ben found it was impossible to hold them.

Unfortunately he had the lines wrapped around his body and he could not free himself from the runaways. They dragged him fully 30 rods but before they had come to a barbed wire fence which they went thro he managed to get loose.

Springing to his feet he took after the team. After running for some time distance however he fell and it was then found out that he had found out that he had sustained some injury. A physician was summoned but he did not regard the injury as serious and so expressed himself. But Ben did not recover. He kept very sore and stiff and finally Friday evening he died. It seems he had been hurt internally and this was what had caused his death. He was up and around the---up to almost the very moment of his death and such fatality was wholly unlooked for. His family was nearly prostrated with grief at this sad termination of this promising young life. The funeral services were held Sunday morning, the burial in the cemetery at Malvern following.
