Edward Harding Wiseman, one of nine children of Elma May (Hazen) and Earl Milton Wiseman, was born on December 7, 1920 one mile north and one mile east of Tabor, Iowa. Ed grew up in the Strahan neighborhood on the Gidley farm south of Hastings, Iowa where his parents farmed. He attended school in Strahan and graduated from the Strahan High School in 1939.

Following school, Ed worked for Kermit Hillyer until September of 1942 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in the European Theater during WW 11 where he served in the Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion 310 Infantry as a radio operator and truck driver. Ed was honorable discharged from the Army January 1946 and returned home. Ed and his brother Herb continued to farm and live on the Gibley farm for the next 36 years. In 1982, they built a home south of Hastings and moved there with their sister Nadine Goodman. Together they farmed and Nadine cared for the home.

In 1993, Nadine’s son, Charles Goodman and his wife Ruth moved to the Wiseman Farm where Charles worked the farm with Ed. Nadine died in 1996 and Herb died in 1998. Charles and Ruth continued to live at the farm and Charles and Ed became partners in the farming operation. Ed adopted Charles and they continued to work the farm as father and son. Ed lived a simple life and his greatest love was the farm. He took great pride in his fields and equipment, and always looked forward to the spring and fall. He enjoyed the Southwest Iowa countryside and his rides with Charles to check on the crops.

Ed also enjoyed reading the newspaper from front to back and the funny pages. He was a member of the Strahan United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Ed died at his home on August 19, 2004 at the age of 83 years, eight months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Brazeal, Vera Isom, and Nadine Goodman; brothers, Leonard Wiseman, Herbert Wiseman, John Wiseman and Donald Wiseman.

Ed is survived by his son Charles Woodman and his wife Ruth of Hastings, IA; brother, Richard Wiseman of Tillamook, OR; sister-in-laws Delphine Wiseman of La Grande, OR and Mary Wiseman of Malvern, IA; grandson, Tony Goodman and his daughter Shelby Goodman of Greenbrier, AR; good friend, Samantha Lee of Benton, AR and special buddy, Mason Hagan of Omaha, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
