Mills County Tribune
10 Mar 1905Mrs. Sarah Keeler, aged 87 years, died at her home in Glenwood Wednesday morning at 4 o’clock. The funeral was held from the house at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Brainerd, of the Episcopal church of which the deceased was a member.
She was the mother of John Keeler and was born in Ireland. She came to Glenwood about 30 years ago from Chicago and worked as a domestic for many years in the home of Banker W.H. Anderson who bought for her the little home in the northeast part of town. Besides John, there survives a daughter living in New York.
Much sympathy is expressed for John Keeler, a well-known character who has been teased and tormented in Glenwood for nearly a generation.
His home is now broken up and the authorities have decided he must go to the poor farm.
John will be missed from the streets and so will the torrents of profanity that he was in the habit of indulging in when tormented. Poor John was not to blame for this, however, but rather those who provoked him to them.
