Charles Laverne Wilson, 97, of Longmont, Colo., formerly of Malvern, died Dec 18, 2004 at the Boulder (Colo.) Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m., at the Malvern United Methodist Church. Pastor David Kim and Pastor Donald Tunnicliff will officiate the services. Interment will be at the Malvern Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson was the son of Charlie Monroe and Lucy Alice (Hyme) Wilson, born Sept. 9, 1907, near Old Pacific. He grew up on his parents’ farm between Malvern and Tabor. He attended both schools and graduated from the Tabor High School in 1925. Following school, he joined his parents on the farm. He married Ruth C. Kier of Glenwood on June 2, 1933, in Plattsmouth, Neb. They made their first home on the farm south of Malvern and were blessed with a son. Eventually, the family settled south of Hastings in the Strahan community. Mr. Wilson enjoyed the farm and was a hard worker during difficult times. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were both active and supportive in 4-H and school activities. In 1960, they moved to Malvern, where they purchased the Randerson Clothing Store. They renamed the business Wilson’s Clothing and continued to operate the store until their retirement on Jan. 1, 1976. Mr. Wilson was an active member of the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department and the Malvern Commercial Club, and he enjoyed the camaraderie of the Main Street businesses. He also drove a school bus for many years and truly enjoyed his interaction with young people. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were active members of the Malvern United Methodist Church and always enjoyed the many activities at church or in the community. They had been married 65 years when Mrs. Wilson died on April 18, 1998. Mr. Wilson continued to live at his home in Malvern until 2000, when he moved to Longmont to be closer to his son and his family. He enjoyed Longmont and the home he shared with other retirees.
