Helen Lenore Garrett, 84, of GlenwoOd, died Nov. 19, 2004, at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were held Nov. 22 at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Rev. Steve Cornelius officiated the services. Burial was at the Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Garrett was the daughter of George Clemey and Esther Claudene (Timmerman) Tucker, born Aug. 30, 1920, in Glenwood.
She married Stanley William Garrett on May 8. 1937, in Rock Port, Mo. To this union one son was born. The family lived in Glenwood, where Mrs. Garrett was employed with the Glenwood School System for 25 years. During this time, she was the first woman school bus driver and some believe the first in the state of Iowa. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and U.M.W. For many years, she enjoyed buying and selling depression glass.
Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters Marilyn Barnes and Ellen Lehr. She is survived by son Lee Garrett and wife Lucy of Glenwood; grandchildren Dawn Johnson and husband Anthony of Omaha, Neb., and Misty Garrett of Glenwood; great-grandchildren Makenzie and Garrett Johnson of Omaha; brothers Keith Tucker and wife Barbara of Glenwood, Garry Tucker and wife Kathy of Hornick and Larry Tucker and wife Margaret of Council Bluffs; sisters Marj Holt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joann Chapman and husband Marion of Whiting; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Memorials are suggested to Glenwood Lake Park. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
