Marie Louise “Mary” Twombly, 63, of Henniker, N.H., died Nov. 2, 2004, at the Hospice House in Concord, N.H. A funeral service was held Nov. 6 at the First Baptist Church in New London, N.H. A visitation for the public will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern. Private burial will be at the Olive Wearin Cemetery. Hastings.

Mrs. Twombly was the daughter of Josiah Foster Wearin Jr. and Mary Louise (Coolidge) Wearin, born Dec. 9, 1940, in Council Bluffs. She grew up on the family’s farm in the rural Hastings area and attended the Malvern High School for two years. She then attended the Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Wash., where she graduated in 1958. She completed one year at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon and attended Garland Junior College in Boston, Mass. She married Alexander “Ike” S. Twombly III on Dec. 28, 1962, at the Methodist Church in Malvern. Following Mr. Twombly’s discharge from the Air Force in 1967, they settled in Henniker, N.H. their marriage was blessed with three sons. Mrs. Twombly enjoyed being a homemaker until 1985, when she became an interior decorator for restaurants. She later worked for Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association as a home health caregiver and spent long periods of time caring for her aging parents. Due to failing health, she was forced to retire in November 2000. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of New London and served two terms on the Henniker School Board. Her enjoyments included acting as Cub Scout den leader, working in her flower gardens and hiking in 1980 with her husband to the Mount Everest base camp. She was always very generous and caring toward others.

Mrs. Twombly was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by sons Peter Twombly of Henniker, Andrew Twombly of Libertyville, Ill., and Frederick Twombly and wife Robin of Henniker; grandchildren Logan, Sawyer and Savannah Twombly; mother Mary Louise Wearin of Louisville, Colo.; sisters Jane Lieb and husband William of Spirit Lake and Priscilla Wagener and husband Dr. Jeffrey of Boulder, Colo.; brother Josiah C. Wearin and wife Karin Hofmann of rural Red Oak; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to help children attend field trips in the Henniker area school district. Those may be sent to SAU #24, Attn: Pam Shepard, P.O. Box 2417, Henniker, N.H. 03242.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
