Dominic D. “Tony” Canale, 67, of Malvern died Oct 4 2004 at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at the East Liberty Methodist Church. Pastor Steve McKinney officiated the services. Interment was at the East Liberty Cemetery in rural Malvern.

Mr. Canale was the son of Regolo and Flara (Dernora) Canale, born Aug. 12, 1937, in Bronx, N.Y. He attended high school through the 10th grade and then joined the U.S. Marines. He served from 1955 through 1960 and achieved the rank of PFC (E-2). While in the Marines, he also earned his GED certificate. He served at military installations in South Carolina and New Hampshire. Mr. Canale was married to Helen Huntley, and their marriage was blessed with two daughters. Following his military duty, Mr. Canale moved to Washington State, where he owned a ranch and Unical Service Station. He later moved to California, where he met Wanda Louise DeWitt. They were married on Nov. 5, 1972, in Culver City, Calif., and Mr. Canale became the father to her children. He owned and operated T&W Towing and Tony’s Auto Service until 1995, when his health forced him to retire. In 1999, Mr. and Mrs. Canale moved to Malvern to be closer to family. Mr. Canale had many interests, including fishing, skeet shooting, bowling and carpentry. Because of his faithful dedication to the Marine Corp motto, “Semper Fi” (Always Faithful), two of his grandsons have now joined the U.S. Marines, and one is now serving in Iraq. Mr. and Mrs. Canale had been married for 31 years when he passed away.

Mr. Canale was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose and stepson Michael Sutterfield. He is survived by wife Wanda; children Nadine Howe and husband Kevin of Spokane, Wash., Davina Achen of Spokane, Tom Sutterfield of Corning, Calif., John Sutterfield of Medford, Ore., Brian Sutterfield of Medford, Jona Gatlin of Lincoln, Neb., Walter Gatlin Sr. and wife Cindy of Malvern, Tim Romines of Nashville, Tenn., and Jim Romines of Houston, Texas; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
