DEATH CLAIMS OLD PIONEER
Christopher Lookabill

Christopher Lookabill died at his home seven miles north of Hastings Saturday, December 10, 1904. Funeral services, attended by a large company of friends, were held in the Wesley church Monday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. O.F. Shaw of Hastings.

Deceased was born in North Carolina 72 years ago the second of last August. In early life he moved to Indiana and nearly fifty years ago to Mills County, Iowa, where he continued to reside, with the exception of seven years spent in Kansas, until the time of his death. He was united in marriage in 1857 to Miss Mary Kayton. To this union ten children were born, eight of whom are still living. Mrs. Lookabill died nine years ago, and four years since he was married the second time to the widow who now survives.

Mr. Lookabill enlisted in company B, 29th Iowa infantry, and served his country for three years. When the war closed he returned to his home in Iowa. As a neighbor he was characterized by that large-heartedness which led him to forget self in his devotion to the comforts and needs of others. His last sickness continued almost a year, attended much of the time with severe suffering, but a strong will power kept him up even after a physical collapse seemed inevitable.
