Malvern Leader
Jan 6, 1898

Death of William Bennett - - After a long and tedious illness, which had worn out both body and mind, Mr. Wm. Bennett passed away at the Clarinda hospital last Saturday evening. The remains were brought to Malvern Monday morning by Mr. John Sandiland, of Emerson, and on the afternoon of that day funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Malvern cemetery beside those of the wife who passed away about one year ago.

The deceased was well known and highly respected in this community, where the best part of his adult life was spent. He came to this county from Ohio in 1864 and for some time was engaged in teaching school. He bought a farm north of Hastings and about the year 1874 was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Sandiland. Shortly after this event he bought a farm just southwest of Malvern, which was the home of himself and family until about four years ago, when he sold out and purchased another farm near Randolph. About this time his health began to fail as did also that of his wife. As stated above the latter passed away about a year ago and Mr. Bennett's condition grew gradually worse up to the hour of his death. Four children are left to mourn the loss of father and mother, Percy, the eldest, being just of age and the youngest about eleven years old.

Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church and a most excellent and highly respected citizen. His peculiarly sad death has called forth the profoundest expressions of regret and sympathy.
