ANDREW WEARIN FATALLY BURNED
Hastings Lad Catches Fire From Gasoline Used By Mistake In Bonfire Last Thursday And Receives Burns That Cause Death
A terrible accident occurred last Thursday at Hastings in which Andrew, the thirteen year old son of Mrs. Ina Wearin was so badly burned that he died a few days later.
It seems that the boy was raking the yard and started a bonfire of the refuse and as it did not burn very readily, he sent one of the smaller children to the house for some kerosene. The child by mistake brought the can of gasoline, although it was plainly marked and in a red can and Andrew without noticing it poured some on the pile of trash which had enough fire in it to blaze up, citing the gasoline in the can and exploding it and throwing the gasoline all over him. Before he could be reached and the flames extinguished, he was burned form the waist down in a most frightful manner. Dr. Edgar Christy was called at once and everything possible done to alleviate his sufferings. The little boy suffered terribly and was unconscious a good part of the time. For a time there seemed to be some hope for his recovery, but the burns were so severe for him to rally and he passed away between five and six o’clock Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held this Thursday morning at the home at ten o’clock.
Andre was a bright, likable, industrious little fellow, making friends of all with whom he came in contact. His taking in this sudden and terrible manner seems especially had to the widowed mother to whom he was beginning to be so much help and comfort and the deepest sympathy of all go out to her tragic sorrow.
Andrew was born on a farm north of Hastings and has spent almost all his entire young life in this vicinity, moving into town with his mother a few years ago.
