Hanna Fisher, 87, Encinitas, Calif.

Hanna Fisher, 87, of Encinitas, Calif., died May 25, 2004. A memorial service was held May 29, 2004, at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date for family and friends at the Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Fisher was the daughter of Henry and Laura Hostetter, born Feb. 20, 1917, in Pacific Junction. She had two sisters: Anna — and Winnifred (Winnie); and three brothers: Raymond, Edgar, and Alvey. She graduated from Pacific Junction High School in 1934. She excelled in academics and was quite active in sports, especially basketball. She married Lewis Fisher on Aug. 13, 1935, in Rock Port, Mo. They made their home in Pacific Junction. They were active in their “couples” bowling league. She enjoyed gardening and reading, and she had a passion for handicrafts, as was apparent in the beautiful quilts made entirely by hand. Mrs. Fisher was quite active in her local church, where she served as treasurer and Sunday and Bible school
teacher. She was only 44 when her husband passed away. She was a working mother who lovingly raised her four children. Her last position was as a supervisor at the Glenwood State Hospital-School, where she retired on Jan. 1, 1982. She was a compassionate and loving caregiver to the “special” girls in her care. Mrs. Fisher was a wonderful, patient and kind mother and grandmother who loved traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her family, and it was important to her to be a part of their lives, whether it be in California, Florida, Iowa or Germany. After suffering a stroke, she moved to California in 1986 to live with her daughter and
family.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by sons Lewis and wife Charlotte of Pacific Junction and Timothy of New Mexico; daughters Dianna Asmussen and husband Keith of Encinitas, Calif., and Nola Jean Poklitar of Ames; grandchildren Matthew Asmussen and wife Monica of Escondido, Calif., Eric Asmussen and wife Colette of Carlsbad, Calif., Joel Asmussen of San Francisco, Calif., Erin of Iowa, Heather of Minnesota, Melissa and Jeremy of Arkansas and Deborah of Arizona; great-grandchildren Caitlyn and Jamie of Escondido, Morgan and Lindsey of Carlsbad and two greatgranddaughters in Arizona; and brother Alvey of Broomfield, Colo.
