Vera V. Cronkhite, 96, Iowa City

Vera Vivian Cronkhite, 96, of Iowa City, died on January 22, 2003, after a sudden illness at the Oaknoll Retirement Center in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held January 27, 2003, at the Malvern United Methodist Church. Rev. David Kim officiated at the service.

Burial was at the Malvern Cemetery.

Mrs. Cronkhite was the daughter of Rea and Debbie Shepard, born August 13, 1906, in Hastings. She lived all but the last years of her life in Mills County, graduating from Hastings High School in 1924. She continued her education in Cedar Falls and Omaha University. She married Ralph Hall on May 27, 1928. One son, Daniel, was born to this union. Mr. Hall passed away in 1952. In 1956 she married Gale Cronkhite. He passed away in 1988. She taught school for 41 years. Her teaching contracts and personal history were donated to the University of Iowa Library in 2001. She was a member of the Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Malvern Garden Club, LTN, and was a charter member of the Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Mrs. Cronkhite was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brother Raymond; and sisters Georgia, Marie, Rowena, Margaret and Marjorie. She is survived by her son, Dr. Daniel Hall and wife Geri; granddaughter Sharon Hall and husband Kirk Reeder; grandson Gregory Hall and wife Karen; great-grandchildren Michelle, Daniel, David and Steven Hall; and many nieces and nephews.

Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern was in charge of local arrangements.
