Macedonia, Iowa - March 1995

Marion Arthur Plumb, affectionately known as "Sonny" the son of Ellsworth George and Ruby May Towne Plumb, was born and grew up on a farm west of Macedonia, Iowa on August 18, 1915. He graduated from Macedonia High School in 1933 where he lettered in all sports and sang solos in many music programs.

Marion married Barbara Dye at the Methodist Parsonage in Council Bluffs, IA on June 30, 1934. To this union four sons were born, Larry, Darrell, Kirk and Mark. Marion farmed in the Macedonia, Carson and Henderson area most of his life with special interest in feeding cattle with Harry Anderson. Marion and Barbara survived several hardships including serious illness and a fire which destroyed their home. The help, love, and faith of their friends gave them the strength to continue and rebuild their home while Marion was confined to the hospital. Due to ill health, he sold their farms and retired to Carson. Marion was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church Choir and Masonic Lodge.

Feeling the need for activity in his retirement, Marion fed cattle for Wendell and Stanley Volkens for nine years. Marion and Barbara moved to Bella Vista, AK where Marion enjoyed mowing the golf courses and retrieving lost golf balls. In 1991, they moved to Lincoln, NE, where Marion continued his love for gardening and his stewardship for the farm land was transferred to his lawn and garden. For the coming planting season, he had started many garden plants in his home and his early garden is already up and growing. He took great pride in the appearance of his lawn and was known for his helpful and kind deeds for his neighbors.

On March 26, 1995, Marion died in his sleep at his home, having attained the age of 79 years, 7 months and 11 days. Marion is survived by his wife Barbara of 61 years, four sons and daughter-in-laws: Larry and Patti of New Hampton, IA; Darrell and Fran of Lincoln, NE; Kurk and Kellie of Safety Harbor, FL; and Mark and Penney of St. Charles, IL; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Pilling of Macedonia, IA; Irene Knight of Berkley, CA, Eva Babbitt of Griswold, IA, and Virginia Petersen of Council Bluffs, IA; plus nieces and nephews.
