Obituary — Mrs. Nebe. Mrs. Mary Schroeder Nebe was born Feb. 2d, 1842, in Moltcahn, Germany, she was reared in the faith of the German Lutheran church to which she was devotedly and sincerely attached unto the day of her death.

She was confirmed in the church March 16, 1850. At this ceremony her pastor gave her as a motto text, 1st Tim. 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life whereunto thou art also called and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." And in truth the thought of the Christian life as warfare, has been with her a favorite thought all through her life. Her favorite text, the one she loved best to quote was very similar to her confirmation text, that beautiful and noble passage in 2d Tim. 4:7 "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous Judge will give me at that day and not unto me only but also unto all them that love his appearing." She was deeply versed in the scriptures and dearly loved them. Charming Christian graces crowned her life and made it truly beautiful as all who knew her intimately do freely testify. She left Germany and came to Mauitowac, Wisconsin, in 1865.

She was married to Martin Nebe, May 16th 1871. They immediately removed to Glenwood where for almost 29 years they have gone in and out among the people respected and esteemed by all who have known them. Seven children were born to them four of whom Frank M., Emil H. Edith M. and Katie L. survive her.

At the funeral of the first born 27 years ago, the hymn "I'm going home to die no more," was sung, and since that time it had been a favorite hymn with the mother. The Sabbath before she died realizing that her end was very near she called her children to her side and had them sing her favorite hymn to her once more. After six months of intense suffering characterized by remarkable patience and fortitude, by thoughtfulness and forgetfulness of self for others, at half past one on the 19th she closed her weary eyes in the last sleep, "To die no more.'' A large concourse of friends came together to pay their last respects to her memory, at the funeral conducted by the pastor of the Baptist church of this place, assisted by the local clergymen, on Thursday afternoon the 23rd.
