Funeral services were held for Claude C. Findley, Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at the Hastings Methodist Church. The Rev. John L. Beebout of Malvern was in charge.
Mrs. Marvin Woodpile sang, “Zion Hill,” and “Sometime We’ll Understand,” accompanied by Mrs. Mark Bowen.Pall bearers were Homer Connell, Clay King, Van Cook, Wendell Crawford, George Perkins, and Dave Hockenberry.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Fred Lookabill, Mrs. Roy Quimby, and Mrs. Nedra Messenger. Serving as ushers were Charley Hall and Roy Quimby. Interment was in the Hastings Cemetery.
Claude C. Findley, son of Frank and Margaret Findley, was born February 18, 1883 at Villisca.
On September 24, 1904, he was united in marriage to Retha Jane Woten of Arlington, Nebraska. To this union ten children were born, six of which preceded him in death. They came to Hasting in 1939.
Mr. Findley worked as a farm laborer for many years, served a a janitor for the community building for many months and for the past four or five years has been sexton of the cemetery at Hastings.
During the month of December 1954, Mr. Findley became ill. On May 8, he was taken to the Red Oak Hospital where he was given blood after two weeks he returned home to spend a few day. During this time at home, he mad this peace with God and father another two days at the hospital was returned home again where he became weaker until death released his soul on Thursday night.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Retha, two sons, Marvin L. of Powers, Oregon and Ira L. of Imogene, two daughters, Effie Orr of Blain, Nebraska and Vera Wootell of Malvern; 16 grandchildren; two nieces, Mrs. Bessie King go Emerson and Lula Satders of Fairfield, California. a host of other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Findley was a devoted husband and father and an especially wonderful grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all his loved ones and friends.
The last two weeks of his life there was a song in his heart and he often repeated the 23rd Psalms.
