Found Dead in the Woods - - That was a ghastly find which the searchers of Wm. Hubbell made in the woods south of Glenwood Friday morning. It was the dead body of the missing man lying under a load of wood which had crashed his life out. Mr. Hubbell had left home Thursday morning to haul a load of wood to Glenwood but when evening came he didn't come back. His wife was not as anxious as she otherwise might have been as he had planned to help a man husk corn the next day and as he lived some miles distant she thought her husband might have gone directly there after hauling the wood to town. Friday morning however her uneasiness was increased and she had some of the neighbors go out to look for the absent man. They came to where he had been working in the timber, about ten o'clock and there they found Mr. Hubbell's team hitched to a load of wood which had been upset. On further investigation, Mr. Hubbell himself was found dead under the wood. Coroner Whitnall (sic) of Hastings was summoned and he proceeded to investigate the matter. From what they could discover it would seem that Hubbell had loaded up his wood and then started up a hill. Part way up his wagon stuck and he then, it would appear, attempted to get over the difficulty by hitching his team to a wheel of the vehicle to draw it past a stump which was the obstruction in the way. In starting up the team pulled the wagon over and the load fell on top of Mr. Hubbell who had been caught in trying to get away, by a sapling. The accident must have taken place about 10 o'clock Thursday morning and it was 24 hours before the discovery was made. When found the team of course was still standing there. The dead man leaves a wife and eight children and as he was merely a laborer, dependent upon a day's work for a living, the family are in reduced circumstances. It is an exceedingly sad case from all points of view.
