September 25, 1902

Mrs. John Sivers died last Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Sept. 22, 1902, at her home in Glenwood, Iowa, of heart trouble, age 78 years. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the home, Dr. Mogridge officiating.

Thus has passed away another of the small band of pioneers of this community, whose characters are interwoven in our local history.

The deceased was born in Manthorp, Lincolnshire, England, May 19, 1824, her maiden name being Mary Ann Leader. She was married July 17, 1842, to John Sivers, and coming to America they arrived July 4, 1849, at the present site of Glenwood, which was then known as Coonville. For 53 years she has lived here a noble Christian life, kind and helpful, and endearing herself to a wide circle of friends. Mr. Sivers died March 31, 1880.

Twelve children were born to them, six of whom are living. They are Ed, Matthew and Olive, who live at Glenwood; John Sivers, Oakland, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Cook and Mrs. Lydia Evernham of Wayne, Neb. All of these were present at the funeral, together with a number of other relatives and friends from distant places.
