Jeremiah P. McGill, a former well known and respected resident of Emerson, died at the Soldiers Home in Leavenworth, Kansas, on October 7, 1915, aged 77 years, 3 months, and 14 days. His body was brought to Emerson for burial Friday evening.

The deceased was born at Milford, Ohio, June 13, 1838. He enlisted at the beginning of the Civil War in the 39th O.V.I. regiment and served until July 9, 1865, receiving an honorable discharge on that date.

Mr. McGill was married to Mary E. Ransom of Batavia, Ohio, on January 1, 1867. They came to Emerson in 1867, where they have always resided. To this union two sons and two daughters were born. They are G. L. McGill of Minnesota, W. R. McGill of Columbian Falls, Montana, Mrs. T. R. Stimson of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Mrs. J. L. Woods of Glenwood. All children are living. Of the eight grandchildren, three were present at the funeral.

The deceased has been a member of the Methodist Church since the early life and was an earnest, confident Christian.

The funeral was held at the M. E. Church last Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., Rev. Mr. McCartney had charge of the services.
