Chester McKinney, familiarly known as "Chet", was born on August 27,1895 in Plattsmouth, NE to William and Ida Rainey McKinney. In February, 1918, Chet was united in marriage to Goldie Dobbs, in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union two children were born. Chet loved farming, and nature, and always had a big garden. He retired from farming in 1955, at the age of 60, whereupon he worked for the next 20 years at the Mt. Arbor Nursery in Shenandoah. Chet loved his family and had a keen sense of humor, loving to tease those whom he considered his friends.

Chet and his family moved to Strahan in 1959; moved away for a period of time, returning to Strahan in 1961, where they maintained their home until Goldie's death in February, 1980, whereupon Chet went to reside at the Vista Gardens Care
Center in Red Oak, Iowa. Chet died in the Vista Gardens Care Center following a long illness, on July 6, 1985, having attained the age of 89 years, 10 months and 10 days. Chet was preceded in death by his wife; by his daughter; by his parents; by one sister and by one brother.

He is survived by his son, Gary Lee, and his wife Gloria, of Strahan; by six grandchildren; by four great grandchildren; and by a brother, Chell McKinney, of Red Oak, Iowa.
