December 6, 1900Death of Mrs. W. C. Gilmore.
After many mouths of weary suffering, Mrs. W. C. Gilmore passed away at her home in this city Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, death resulting from cancer. It was several years ago that a tumorous growth appeared on her right foot. This growth had been removed several times before any alarm was felt. On June 4th so serious had the malady become, that the foot was removed by amputation at the Methodist hospital in Omaha. The dread disease however spread through her system and a second operation in September afforded but a slight relief, since which time she has steadily declined. The funeral services took place Wednesday after noon at 2 o'clock from the home being conducted by Rev. R. E. Shaw of the Methodist church, of which the deceased was a member. The text of the discourse was selected from Mark 14:8, "She hath done what she could." Mrs. Gilmore had a lovable disposition, as all will testify who knew her. In all her suffering she was patient and cheerful. As a wife and mother her memory will be lovingly cherished for a life of noble self-sacrifice and faithful devotion to duty. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their hour of sorrow. Following is a brief obituary of the deceased:
