John Lee Adams was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, September 18, 1858 and died at his home in Corning, Iowa, April 4th, 1929 at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 16 days.

He lost his mother when he was 13 years of age after which he went to Mills County, near Pacific Junction where he made his home for five years. Then he removed to Emerson, Iowa. Here he met Miss Mary E. Culver and they were united in marriage August 17, 1881. Following their marriage, they made their home near Wayne, Nebraska, where they lived for about 12 years. Also for a short time they lived in Blue Springs, Nebraska, after which they returned to Emerson, Iowa and later they came to Adams County, locating at Mt. Etna in 1906. Eleven years ago they removed to Corning, Iowa, where they have since resided.

To them were born seven children, all of whom are living, except for Lynn, who died in infancy. The living children are Mrs. Lulu Johnson of Clarinda, Iowa, Mrs. Josephine Mathers of Cromwell, Iowa, Lavenia Adams, Corning, Iowa, Willard of Beatrice, Nebraska, Lenore, Corning, Iowa, and Russell of Selfridge Field, Detroit, Michigan. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Adams was converted when he was about nineteen years of age and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church. He has remained a faithful and loyal member of the church since the day he made his covenant with it.

For a long time he has been in failing health for fifteen years, using crutches to assist him in getting about. For the last eight years he has not been able to walk even with the assistance of crutches. But while his body may have been afflicted his soul has been free and he lived a victorious spiritual life.

Funeral services were held at the Hilliard Funeral Home, Monday, April 8, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts. The body was taken to Emerson where a short service was held at the Emerson cemetery before interment.
