THE MALVERN LEADER July 8, 1886

J.B. Jordan's mother, Mary Ann Jordan, died at the home of her son, four miles east of Atlantic, Friday morning at 2 o'clock, at the extreme age of 110 years, 5 months and 12 days.

Mrs. Jordan was born in South Carolina in the year 1776, the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. She afterward moved to Kent, where she was married. Thence she moved to Illinois and from there to Iowa, coming into this State 52 years ago, and she has lived in Iowa ever since. She was the first white woman to cross the Mississippi above Keokuk.

She has seen four generations of descendants. For several years up to the time of her death she lived with her eldest son, Mr. J.B. Jordan, who is 76 1/2 years of age. Mr. Jordan's sister, age 70, lives with him, and another sister, 80 years. Mrs. Jordan has been blind for ten years previous to her death. Old age was the only cause of her death.
